Art-O-Mat

I first came across an Art-o-mat® machine at the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston. I was immediately interested in becoming a part of it and entered my submission of a Picasso Bug on a miniature canvas. Once accepted, I spent the next two weeks painting 50 more of these bugs and was ready to send my first shipment to the Art-o-mat studio. They sold out quickly and I am currently working on my next set to send.

Picasso Bugs
Acrylic on Mini canvas (each 2” x 3”)

Sphaerocoris annulus (also known as the Picasso bug) are recognized by their beautiful colors that look painted on. In nature, each bug has markings that are slightly unique so I made sure no two bugs in this set are exactly the same.

Each canvas was packaged in a box, wrapped in cellophane for the Art-o-Mat dispensers. I included a little piece about the Picasso bug and it’s unique design.

The next 50…

My next set for Art-O-Mat will be of Hanafuda cards. I first saw this game being played at a family reunion when I was a child and immediately wanted to learn the rules. I was very drawn to the tiny size of each card as well as the designs on them. Like Picasso bugs, each card has a unique design on it. A deck contains 48 cards so it is also a great number to work with to get to 50. The extra 2 will be my version of Hanafuda “joker” cards.
